About us

A home for the curious-minded

Philadelphians founded The Athenaeum in 1814 to read widely, engage deeply and connect with one another. More than two centuries later, it is still built and sustained by its members.

Come for the circulating library and stay for the conversation, in rooms designed by John Notman in the 1840s.
